NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS

We specialize in neuropsychological assessment services for children, ages six and above, adolescents, adults, and geriatric individuals.  Our staff has extensive experience in the assessment of AD/HD, learning disabilities, brain injury, all types of dementia, and a wide range of other neurologically-based conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and seizure disorders.

Assessment involves the administration of standardized tests to evaluate cognitive abilities and psychiatric functioning.  Neuropsychological assessment results are used for many purposes, such as:

  • To determine or clarify diagnosis

  • To identify strengths, weaknesses, and compensation strategies

  • To assess recovery from injury and/or response to treatment

  • To identify the need for academic accommodations

  • To identify the need for other resources (neurology, psychiatry, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, etc.)

  • To monitor functioning over time

We tailor each evaluation based on the individual needs of the client and the referral question.  Evaluations may involve the assessment of some or all of the following domains of functioning:

  • Intellectual ability

  • Language

  • Learning and memory

  • Sensory motor

  • Visual-spatial ability

  • Attention and processing speed

  • Executive Functioning

  • Academic Achievement

  • Personality and psychological functioning

The assessment process typically involves a clinical interview to obtain a comprehensive history, review of records, administration, scoring, and interpretation of tests, a comprehensive report that summarizes findings and provides treatment recommendations, and a feedback session to explain and discuss results.
